Nicole Descoteaux brings over 30 years industry experience to the Janet St. Paul Studio for Hair and Beauty, drawing inspiration from style centers’ New York, London and Paris to bring her clients the latest trends in fashion and beauty. Nicole came to Austin from New York City’s Butterfly Studio Salon where she spent 15 years as master stylist and lead educator for both the haircutting and styling departments.
Throughout her career, she’s created hairstyles for celebrity appearances, runway shows, and is regularly featured in magazines such as Allure, Harper’s Bazaar, Good Housekeeping and W Magazine, to name a few.
“I love to travel and be inspired by the beauty of other cultures.”
A native of Maine, her journey as a hair stylist began there before opening her first salon in Ft Meyers, Florida. It was with the Jameson Shaw hairdressers in Atlanta, Georgia that she mastered the Jacques Dessange hair cutting technique, a French hairdresser who pioneered hairstyles that enhance the face and establish the Coiffé-Décoiffé – or “messy look.” From there, Nicole relocated to the Michael Thomas hair salon in Chicago, where she found herself backstage providing celebrity styling for NBC studio shows, including well-known personalities Oprah Winfrey and Jenny Jones.
In 1998, Nicole move to the center of it all – Manhattan – to continue her career alongside Celebrity Stylist John Barrett at Bergdorf Goodman, where she styled for Carolina Herrera and Badgley Mischka runway shows as well as Vanity Fair’s party prep salon. During Nicole’s time in New York at Bergdorf Goodman and then Butterfly Studio Salon, her extensive celebrity styling client list included Annet Lauer for Town and Country magazine, Catherine Zeta Jones wedding, Martha Stewart, Lauren Bacall, Jane Seymore, Laura Dern, Elle McPherson, the Oscar De La Renta runway show and Elizabeth Vargas for Good Morning America and Dateline ABC studios.
Nicole loves to travel and be inspired by the beauty of other cultures, living by the motto “the business of life is the acquisition of memories.” Besides her impressive credentials and hair styling expertise, she makes it a priority to pay it forward, working actively to break the cycle of homelessness, hunger and poverty in America. In NYC, she actively participated in Xavier Mission, helping feed and coordinate a meal service that fed 1,800 meals a week. She plans to continue her philanthropic efforts with similar organizations in Austin. Living by the belief you have only three choices in life – give in, give up, or give it all you have, Nicole is a welcome addition to the Janet St. Paul Studio for Hair and Beauty and the greater community of Austin.
