Don’t Bring a Gift, inLieu™ One.
From the start of her journey as a business owner and member of the Austin community, Janet St. Paul had a strong sense of corporate responsibility and an intention to give back. “I believe we have a responsibility as business owners, community members, and human beings to lift up our neighbors when they are most vulnerable.” This is why Janet St. Paul was thrilled to discover a new way to give back, developed by another local Austin female entrepreneur—Kathy Terry.
inLieu, launched by P Terry’s co-founder Kathy Terry in March of 2018, is an app that allows users to make donations to a charity “in lieu of” purchasing gifts. Instead of purchasing a bottle of wine or stressing over the perfect physical gift, simply download inLieu and start giving! The app will then send a message to the recipient (ex. hostess) based on the contact method you choose in the gifting process. The charitable organization receives an email notification as soon as the donation is processed.
“We tried to make it easy for people to give. We want to change the way people think of giving. It’s a whole mindset shift.“

How It Works
The app, available for both Android and iPhone, uses GuideStar, which gathers information for every IRS registered nonprofit organization, giving users access to over $1.6 million nonprofits. Additionally, there are three different ways to give:
The launch event for inLieu this past March brought more than 400 attendees and raised more than $20,000 for local nonprofits. “We can’t rely on 10 percent of the population to save the world or solve our problems,” Kathy Terry says. “If we want to create, we all have to participate. And by having this app, everyone gets to participate.” Read more about the launch of inLieu in a recent published article by the Austin American Statesman and about Kathy Terry’s story and advice for other female entrepreneurs on Austin Woman Magazine’s website. She also recently was featured in an article by Tribeza Magazine.
Janet loves that this will make her donation drives for Texas CASA even easier on her clients that want to give but may not have an appointment during the time frame of the event.

“I am on a mission to make giving back easier than ever before, and am excited to be able to offer a fun and social way for Janet St. Paul clients to support the great work of Texas CASA. I hope using inLieu makes giving back a new, fun way to honor and support Janet St. Paul’s annual donation drive!“
